Simpkins, William Seibert
William Seibert Simpkins, 72, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at his home in Snowville, Va. He was a member of Snowville Baptist Church, retired from Virginia Department of Transportation and from the Snowville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lover of Bluegrass music, and could be found every Thursday evening at the Snowville Ruritan Building, picking his banjo and sharing the music he loved with all who came to listen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Vera Meredith Simpkins; five brothers, Gene, Ellis, Orville, Ernest and Curtis Simpkins; and a sister, Hazel Wade. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Juanita Wilson Simpkins, of Snowville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kathy Simpkins, and Dwayne and Arlene Simpkins, all of Snowville, and Allen Simpkins, of Dublin; two sisters, Donna Wilson, of Radford, and Ruth Terry, of Floyd; a brother and sister-in-law, Erby and Colleen Simpkins, of Radford; brotherin-law, Merle Wilson, of Snowville; granddaughter, Misty Simpkins; four stepgrandchildren, Chris Loan, Sherrie Sifford and her husband, Jonathan, Mike Sarver and his wife, Grace, and Brittany Sarver; a greatgranddaughter, Melissa Ferrell; and three stepgreatgrandchildren, Andrew Sifford, and Faith and Mary Sarver.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the Snowville Baptist Church with the Rev. Neil Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Cemetery in Snowville. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Snowville Fire Department or the Snowville Baptist Church.
