Hazel Virginia Collins Simpkins went to her Heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 3, 2021 at the age of 79. Hazel was born to Hoagie and Earthel (“Earthie”) Collins on August 11, 1941 in Pembroke, VA.

Hazel devoted her life to being a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. Always supportive and encouraging, always wise and kind, her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She spent her days not only raising her children and grandchildren but also opening her home and heart to many other children in the county that she babysat through the years. She would always look back on those memories and speak of them fondly.

Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she loved sharing with those who surrounded her. She was a faithful member of the Pembroke Assembly of God for many years, until her health made it unable for her to attend. Hazel loved to read her Bible, praying for and with others, singing and humming her favorite hymns, spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, always thinking of others first with her servant heart.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Hoagie and Earthel (Earthie) Collins, her brother, Arnold Collins, her son, Tony Leon Simpkins and her sister, Ruby Robbins. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 55 years Leonard Ray Simpkins, her sisters, Kathleen Collins and Betty Collins, her children, Ray Simpkins and wife Renee, David Simpkins, Diann Songer and husband Robert, Donald “Boomer” Simpkins and wife Sandra, Stanley Simpkins and wife Judy, Elaine Ruano and husband Dan, her grandchildren, Patty Reed and husband Bryan, Mandy Sprouse and husband William, Rachel Simpkins, Suzane Simpkins, Crystal Simpkins, Shaina East, Cheyenne Hawks; Shawn McCroskey and wife Angel, Brandy Midkiff and husband Marshall, Jennifer Jarrells and husband Mike, Ricky Simpkins and wife Kayla, Scott Martin and wife Jessica; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Hazel has fought the good fight, finished the race, and has now received her new body and crown of life! “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.” Exodus 23:20
