Simpkins, Della Mae

Della Mae Simpkins, 91, of Newport died Friday, August 23, 2013. She was born in Montgomery County, VA on January 29, 1922 to the late Doc E. and Helen Kytchen Lowry.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Royster Simpkins; daughter, Dorthena “Tensie” Duncan; sisters, Ginger, Mary, Mickey and Hester; brothers, Roy Lowry and Jimmy Lowry.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Eddie B. Smith of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney P. and Kitty Keffer of New Castle; 2 granddaughters, Molly K. Christ and husband, George, Katie Keffer; 3 grandsons, B. J. Smith, Tony Gardner and wife, Angie, Troy Gardner and Lori Gardner; 2 great-grandsons, Drake Gardner and Jack Christ; 6 great-granddaughters, Tia, Tonya, Adreonna, Keira, Sophia, Lauren and husband, Adam; special niece, Charlotte (Chubby) Adams and husband, Frank.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 26, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Level Green Christian Church with the Minister Harold Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Rescue Squad, PO Box 144, Newport, VA 24128. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Sunday evening at the Level Green Christian Church, Craig County, VA.
