Della Cree Simpkins, 74, of Christiansburg, Va., died, on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born in Blacksburg, Va., on April 24, 1935, to the late George Riley and Mary Eliza Lucado Hodge.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Simpkins; three sisters, Esther Calina, Margaret Pyles, and Georgia Caldwell; and one brother, Paul Hodge.

She is survived by her five daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Gayle and Clyde Vaught, of West Virginia, Terri L. and Joe Booth, of Shawsville, Dee Williams, Carol S. and Eric Davis, and Penny Tickle, all of Christiansburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Patty Tickle, of Christiansburg; two sisters and brother-in-law, DeLois Cox, of Christiansburg, and Eloise and David Hoops, of Princeton, W.Va.; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vincent Guerrea officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Friends may call any time on Friday, November 20, 2009, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg, Va.
