simmons_neva_slusherNeva Slusher Simmons, of Willis, passed away on September 5, 2012 at the age of ninety six. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty nine years, James Hugh Simmons and three siblings: Mary Shelor, Edith Slusher, and R.O. Slusher, Jr.. She is survived by two siblings: Ruth Ann Slusher of Floyd, Va, and Judy McDanel of Richmond, Va., two daughters: Mary Simmons Rakes and her husband Kaye of Williamsburg Va, and Sarah James Simmons of Holden Beach, NC., one granddaughter Sabrina Rakes Fahey and husband Jessen of Morrison, Colorado, and one great granddaughter Tatum Fahey. Neva was a lifelong member of Willis United Methodist Church, having served there as a Sunday school teacher. She taught school in the 1940’s and was a substitute teacher and special education teacher’s aide for many years. Neva was an avid gardener, and was very active until her recent illness. The family wishes to thank Barbara Bain Gallimore for her love and support of Neva during recent years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Willis United Methodist Church 5671 Floyd Hwy.
