Geneva Harris Simmons, of Floyd, was born on September 7, 1914 and passed away on August 23, 2007.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Simmons; brother, Freeman Harris; and sister, Mary Hylton. Mrs. Simmons is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Donna Simmons of Roanoke and Bob and Jeanette Simmons of Floyd; granddaughters and their husbands, Karla and Clay Moran of Floyd, Amy and Matt Graziani of Southport, N.C. and Megan and Jason Nichols of Check; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Zane Moran, Kayla, Conner and Callie Graziani, Paige and Leeah Nichols. Other survivors include brothers and wives, Wendell and Linita Harris, Russell and Marguarite Harris and Vernon Harris; sister and husband, Ruby and Calvin Dickerson; and sister-in-law, Neva Dell Simmons.

Geneva loved the outdoors and for many years had a beautiful garden. She had many friends in the Falling Branch and Topeco Communities. She was a member of Topeco Church but also attended Falling Branch Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with the Rev. Mike Varner officiating. Interment will follow at Topeco Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2007 at Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Topeco Church Deacon’s Fund or to Falling Branch Church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Susan Osborne, the staff at Skyline Manor Nursing Home and Nancy Caskey for their dedicated assistance before Geneva’s life journey ended.
