Shumate, Pauline Hale

Pauline Hale Shumate, 102, of Roanoke, and formerly of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Mrs. Shumate was born on November 5, 1910, in Giles County, and was a daughter of the late John Hale. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Everette Shumate Jr.; and one daughter, Sandra Shumate Owen. Mrs. Shumate was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg for over 80 years and was a member of the DAR of Pearisburg. The date of her passing, January 6, was the same date as her wedding anniversary and her beloved husband’s birthday. She is survived by one son, Anderson E. Shumate III and wife, Juanita, of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Anderson E. Shumate IV and his wife, Debbie, Suzanne L. Tovo and her husband, Ken, and Patricia S. Young; and three great- grandchildren, Jordan A. Shumate, Michael K. Tovo and Jacob R. Tovo. Funeral Services will be conducted at noon on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Givens Funeral Home Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating. Burial will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 11 a.m. until noon. Arrangements by Givens Funeral Home, 540-921-1650.
