Delva Ile Shrewsbury, 87, of 2865 Wild Turkey Run in Christiansburg, Va., formerly of Princeton, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at his residence.

Born September 30, 1919 in Beeson, W.Va., he was the son of the late C.E. and Neta Foley Shrewsbury. He was a retired toll clerk supervisor with the West Virginia Turnpike Commission and a former coal miner. He was a member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church. Delva was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. He was a member of the Princeton Elks Lodge #1459 and an avid golfer.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Lava Thompson Shrewsbury; and one brother, Aulda Shrewsbury preceded him in death. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Brohard and companion George Bishop of Christiansburg, Va. with whom he made his home; two grandchildren. Jonathan Brohard and wife Bradford, and Julie Hurd and husband Martin Hurd, Jr.; and three greatgrandchildren, Sophie Brohard, Jackson Brohard, and Ragan Hurd.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, December 18, 2006 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Ric Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with the Mercer County Veterans Council conducting military graveside rites. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Brohard, Martin Hurd, Gary Young, George Bishop, Ian Bishop, Greg Quast and Rick Kendricks. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the service hour on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite veterans organization or charity of choice.
