Verlin Edward Shrader, 78, of the Niday Community on Wolf Creek in Bland County, passed away Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 at Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville, Va. He was born in Giles County on September 4th, 1929 and was the son of the late Fizhugh Lee and Flossie Glade Fizer Shrader. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil Lee Shrader, Arnold Shrader and John Allen Shrader.

A veteran of the United States Army in the Korean War, he received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. He was a retired employee of Oxford of Giles where he worked as a fabric cutter.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Iva Lorrene Conley Shrader of Niday; three sons, Gerald Lee Shrader and wife Judy of Bland, Va., Eddie Dean Shrader and wife Debbie, Darrell Edward Shrader and wife Kathy; a daughter, Cindy Gail Farren and husband Tom, all of Rocky Gap, Va.; five grandchildren, Michael Dean Shrader, Hope Danielle Jackson and husband Chris, Matthew Lee Shrader, Cody Lee Farren, and Colton Ryan Farren; four great-grandchildren, Santina Shrader, Dylan Jackson, Cameron Jackson and Kendyl Jackson; two brothers, Arthur Shrader of Rich Creek, Va. and Granville Shrader of Narrows.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9th, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Eddie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Shrader Cemetery on Wolf Creek Road near Narrows with Graveside Rites conducted by VFW Post No. 6000 of Narrows, American Legion Post No. 68 of Narrows and American Legion Post No. 311 of Pembroke.

The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
