Shrader, Mary Lois Jones

Mary Lois Jones Shrader, 79, of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 19, 2007 at her home.

A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born in Pembroke on September 21, 1927, and was the daughter of the late George Riley and Maggie Pauline Bowman Jones. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Joseph Fred Shrader; and a son-in-law, Gary Wright; five brothers, Doug, Lynn, Lawrence, Leo, and Irving Jones; two sisters, Juanita Albert and Beulah Anderson.

She was a retired employee of the Giles County School System where she served as the cafeteria manager for Narrows Elementary/Middle School. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows where she served as a past-president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, Clerk of the Church, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, and the Women’s Bible Class. She was also a member of the Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Pearisburg.

She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Glenn and Sharon Shrader of Narrows; a daughter, Freda Wright of Narrows; four grandchildren, David Shrader, Jennifer Crawford, Amy Wright, and Justin Wright; two great-grandchildren, Sampson (Sam) and Jaeger Shrader; two brothers, George Jones, Jr. of Salem and Donald Jones of Pembroke; two sisters, Frances Ramsey of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Pauline Bowles of Cayce, South Carolina; a mother-in-law, Maxine Shrader of Lugoff, South Carolina; many nieces, nephews, and many very special friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows with the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at First Christian Church.
