Gary Douglas “Redeye” Shrader, 67 of Narrows passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, February 8th, 2014. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on November 24th, 1946, and was the son of Leliah Helvey Shrader Pruett, the late Douglas Fairbanks Shrader, and the stepson of the late Myron Carson Pruett.

A 1965 graduate of Narrows High School, Gary served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, a retired employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows with 27 years of service, and was also employed with Mundy Construction Company for three years. He was an avid hunter, football and NASCAR fan, and will also be remembered for his many practical jokes. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and animal lover, Gary will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Juanita Blankenship Shrader; two daughters, Cindy Bowers and husband David, Stacy Ferrell and husband Joe; a son, Shane Shrader and wife Macy, all of Narrows; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of Narrows; and a very special friend, Gerry Clark of Pearisburg.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 11th, 2014 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Ed Tiller officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Posts #68 of Narrows, #311 of Pembroke and #145 of Peterstown. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Chapel Tuesday from 11 AM until just prior to the service.
