Evelyn Broyles Shrader, 85 of Narrows passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20th, 2014 at Heritage Hall-Rich Creek. She was born in Glen Lyn, Virginia on December 14th, 1928, and was the daughter of Haven Silas and Pearl Skeens Broyles. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Berman C. Shrader; and three sisters, Loretta Ratcliffe, Kay Fleeman, and Jean Deeds.

During her high school years at Narrows in the 1940s, Evelyn was an outstanding basketball player for the Green Wave. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows where she served in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, and was a longtime member of Lakeland Chapter #74 of the Order of the Eastern Star where served as Worthy Matron, in addition to many other positions. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, cross-stitching, and spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are, three children, Linda Shrader, Sarah Jenkins and Joe Shrader; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two brothers, Marvin Broyles and Jerry Broyles; three sisters, Vivian Forrester, Judy Butler, and Penny Mullins; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 24th, 2014 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Jim McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider the Alzheimer’s Association.
