Amy Byrd Shrader, or Amy T Byrd as she was known to many, was taken from us much too soon on January 6, 2017. She was born to Marshall Allen Coburn and Millie Lucas Coburn on September 3, 1958.

She is with those that had preceded her, in the arms of her father, loving her son Marshall Lee Thurber, greeting her uncle Harry Tabor, finally catching up with her best friend Sherrie Lynn Atwell.

She graduated from Narrows High School in 1976, and said of the adventures that ensued, that she was “Drunk on freedom first.” She attended New River Community College, and worked at the Virginia Tech library. She worked for and Aetna Life and Casualty for 17 years and managed to be one of the first to implement working from home as a back injury made mobility difficult. She graduated from National College with high honors in 2012, with a degree in Medical Assisting and in Administration & Business.

She will be deeply missed by all that knew her in their day to day life, as her patient words and courteous greeting were her trademark. Her focus was on problem solving, and she would help you in any way she could. Her love was of family and all of the adventures therein were precious memories to be retold over and over again.

A mother, a sister, a mimi, an aunt, and a friend who took all words to heart, and bade all to look with God’s wisdom on all events so that we may better understand His plan, who we all look forward to seeing again.
She is survived by her children Marcus and Katie and her husband Brett; grandchildren Keegan, Kaleb, Levi, Devin and Evelyn; also her sister, Debbie Coburn; her niece, Samantha Dowling; great-niece Skylar Dowling; her brothers, Robbie Coburn, and Barry Coburn, his wife Leslie Coburn, and niece Sara Beth Coburn; also her daughter in law, Nicole Byrd, and the beloved class of 1976.
