Showalter Sr., Richard Russell

Richard Russell Showalter, Sr., 77, formerly of Newbern, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2015.Dick was born on April 23, 1938 to the late William A. and Sarah J. Showalter.

He is preceded in death by his former wife, Winkie Showalter and his brothers, Tom Bob, Don, Jackie Joe, and Ted Showalter.He is survived by his sons, Richard R. (Beverly) Showalter, Jr. and Mark T. Showalter; a daughter, Dana C. (Lewis) Ramsey; and his grandchildren, Amanda Bane, Tevin, Alex, DeAngelo, and Lewis Ramsey, and Hannah, Madeline, Gretchen, and Lydia Showalter.

Dick retired from Corning Glass after nineteen years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving honorably with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was also a long time member of the Dublin Lions Club and was an active member of the Newbern Community Christian Church. He was a loving father and grandfather who shared his love for God and the outdoors with his family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday July 26, 2015 at the Newbern Community Christian Church with funeral services to follow directly after with the Reverend Ernie DePew officiating. Interment will be held on Monday July 27, 2015 at 11 a.m. at West View Cemetery in Radford with Full Military Rites.
