Jesse Edgar Showalter, Sr., 77, of Floyd, departed this life on April 24, 2006. Born February 4, 1929 in Otey, Va., Jesse served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Juneau-CL 119 and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He retired with 53 years service from the Plumber and Steamfitters Local #491 in Roanoke, Va.

Jesse was preceded in death by his son, Justin Emmanuel Showalter; parents, Edgar Hern and Ida Pfisterer Showalter; brothers, Harry L. Showalter and Charles A. Showalter; sisters, Winifred Eanes, Annadean Baladad, Marguerite Wells, Thelma Bargas and Laura Sheppard.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Wanda Akers Showalter of Floyd; sons, Jesse E. Showalter, Jr. of Indian Valley, Lenny K. Showalter of Woolwine, Micah and Crystal Showalter of Indian Valley; daughters, Brenda Showalter of Indian Valley, Delsie and Jerry Christian of Blacksburg, Linda and Jerry Smith of Radford and Michelle Showalter Mahala of Indian Valley; also three granddaughters, five grandsons and two very special great-grandsons, Micah Showalter II and Jared Mahala. Sister, Ruby June Trainham of Richmond.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Barry Coffey officiating. Interment will follow at Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Maberry Funeral Home.
