shouse walter edwinWalter Edwin Shouse, 85, of Dublin, died on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Dublin, on October 16 1926, and was the son of the late James Walter and Susan Alice Shouse. Mr. Shouse was a refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanic who worked for several years at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant before working and retiring from Radford University. Mr. Shouse was a long-time member of the New Dublin Presbyterian Church and proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shouse was preceded in death by his sisters, Enola Shoemaker, Gracie Rutherford, Mildred Ward, Bertha Shouse; and brothers, Aubrey Shouse, Dan Shouse, Arthur Shouse and Charlie Shouse. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Hazel Akers Shouse; son, Larry Edwin Shouse and daughter-in-law, Ginger Warner Shouse, of Salem; granddaughters, Whitney Shouse Bonura, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Meredith Anne Shouse, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and great-granddaughter, Isabella Grace Bonura. He is also survived by two sisters, Alberta Bentley and Myrtle Nuckols and brother-in-law, Claude (Shorty); and several nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to the many neighbors and friends who loved and helped him through the years. A special thanks to the staff of the Roanoke Memorial Ten Mountain ICU for the loving care they provided him during his illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012, at the New Dublin Presbyterian Church, 5331 New Dublin Church Road, in Dublin, with the Reverend Andrew Taylor-Troutman officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Highand Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends at the New Dublin Presbyterian Church from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
