Shinnick, Michael D.

amem_autumnDr. Michael D. Shinnick, 71 passed away on Oct 21, 2016 at his home in Blacksburg, Va. He was born in Lowell, Ma on Aug 26, 1945 to parents William James Shinnick and Clara Williams.

Michael grew up in Florida and was an avid sailor, scuba diver, adventurer and collector of antique cars, who had a zest for life and a sparkle in his eye. He received one Masters Degree in Rehabilitative Counseling and Psychology and another Masters Degree and PHD in Rehabilitation and Special Education Services. All degrees were received from Auburn University where he also served as an associate professor. He was also founder and director of Dynamics Research Group which provided expert services in applied ergonomics, work injury and disability management, since 1981.

He is survived by his daughter Lauren Shinnick, and his nephews Ronald Shinnick Jr., Michael Sirven, Chano Sirven Jr., along with their families and his loving dog, Asher. He was predeceased by his father William James Shinnick, his mother Clara Williams, brother Ronald Shinnick and sister Donna Shinnick.

In lieu of funeral services the family will be receiving guests at Michael Shinnick’s home on Fri Oct 28, 2016 from 4-6pm. In his memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
