Garland Vann Shinault, 66, of Pulaski, died Saturday, May 17, 2008. He traveled extensively but his home was always Pulaski. Garland was the son of the late Anne A. Shinault, of Pulaski, and the late Clyde W. Shinault, of Augusta, Ga.

He is survived by his wife, Susan E. Trulove, of Pulaski County; his sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Erik Bowen, of Pulaski, his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Lourdes Shinault, of East Nokomis, Fla., Curtis and Barbara Shinault, of Monroe, N.C., Neal and Christine Shinault, of Augusta, Ga., and Marc and Donna Shinault, of Augusta, Ga. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Pulaski residents, Wendy Bowen and Carissa Rudisill. He is survived by his aunt and uncle-in-law, Libby and Ray Underwood, of Pulaski; his aunt, Betty Heinouer, of Pittsburg, Pa.; and many cousins, including those with whom he grew up and who he considered as close as brothers and sisters, Carolyn O’Conner, of Covington, Carol Clark, of Morgantown, N.C., Rhonda French, of Pulaski, Pam Ayers, of Galloway, Ohio., Rocky Ratcliff, of Dublin, Danny Ratcliff, of Hampton, Dana Ratcliff, of Pulaski, Kenneth Underwood, of Reynoldsville, Ohio, Jeffrey Underwood, of Pulaski, Jackie Shinault, of Hampton, and Larry White, of Homeland, Ga.

Garland was a member of the Pulaski High School Class of 1960 and he attended Oak Hill Academy and received a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he also played football. He was an ironworker and a member of Local 697 out of Roanoke. He was a lifetime member of the Moose and charter member and former Governor of the Pulaski Moose. He was a member of the Memorial Christian Church, Draper.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin.

Visiting will be Monday evening from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please jot down one of your favorite stories about Garland to send to his wife and spend time talking to friends, one of Garland’s favorite pastimes.
