Sherman, Dorothy Louise Smith

Dorothy Louise Smith Sherman, age 79, of Wake Forest, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery. She was born on September 16, 1932, to the late Rosa and Walter Smith in Amonate. On March 31, 1951, she was married to the late Oscar O. Sherman Sr. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Grandon Sherman; three brothers, R. J. Smith, Charles Smith, James Smith; five sisters, Josephine Ward, Clementine Outlaw, Fannie Whitt, Frances Curtis, Rosie Lockett. To this union was born six children, Oscar O. Sherman Jr. (Carolyn), Clarence Edward (Corelise), Carolyn Eddie (Milton), Grant Sherman (Pam), Andrea Hendricks (Joe), Sherwin Brent (Andrea). She is also survived by three sisters, Virginia Twiggs, of Philadelphia, Pa., Ecclesiastes (Bob) Bowie, of Allentown, Pa., Cornelia (Ronald) Morris, of Christiansburg; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and special caregiver and friend, Joe Burks. A homegoing service will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the New Pentecostal United Holy Church, Wake Forest. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m., at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
