Shepherd Sr., Carl Edward

Carl Edward Shepherd, Sr., 77 of Willis, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cora Sue Vaughan Shepherd; son, Carl Edward Shepherd Jr.; and grandson, Carl Dwayne Cummins.

He was in Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Germany, Alaska, Georgia, and Virginia during his career in the Air Force. He was a police officer in Floyd and Blacksburg. He also retired from Volvo. He loved his honey bee hives and telling old Air Force and police stories.

He is survived by his son, Neal I. Shepherd; Daughter, Tamathy (Tammy) L. Linkous and husband Lloyd; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Ocran Shepherd and wife Melodee; sister, Gennatt Banlao and husband Pedro; sisters-in-law, Freida Matthews, Sandra Blinko; brothers-in-law, Bill Burke, John P. Vaughan.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Stanley Hawkins officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Floyd V.F.W. Post# 7854 and American Legion Post# 127. Interment to follow at the Vaughan – Hylton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
