James Steward Shepherd, 88, of Elliston, Va., passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009. James was born on April 6, 1921. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; and his sons, James and Luther. He is survived by his children, Hobert Shepherd and wife, Betty, Hubert Shepherd, Bertha Worth and Linda, Darlene Hite and husband, Bruce, Betty Brandau, David Shepherd, Mary Bryant and husband, Alvin, Lois Dunn and husband, Nathan, Alice Hodge and husband, Kelvin, Joe Shepherd and wife, Tina, Tommy Shepherd and wife, Kim, and Timmy Shepherd and wife, Teresa. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the First Church of God with Pastor Max Nichols officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shawsville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 14, Shawsville, Va. 24162.
