Shelton, Ruth Pentecost

Ruth P. Shelton, age 88, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at her home in Peterstown, WV. Born April 20, 1931, in Roanoke County, VA, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Pearl Dockery Pentecost.

She was one of eleven children, and the oldest girl. Ruth worked for Jefferson Mills in Pulaski, VA. She loved playing the piano and painting. She was a member of the Giles County Community Chorus directed by Thomas Debusk, where she enjoyed practicing, performing, and traveling with the chorus. She was excited to have performed with the chorus at the Biltmore Estate in NC this past Christmas season. Her last performance with the chorus was the Easter celebration performances.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Hall Shelton; two brothers, David and Paul Pentecost; and two sisters, Dorthy Delane and Belva Green. Survivors include two sons, Elton F. Shelton and wife Ruth of Pulaski, VA, and Sanford Shelton and wife Rhonda of Ballard, WV; three brothers, James Pentecost of Montvale, VA, Charles Pentecost of Mishawaka, IN, and Ambrose Jessup “AJ” Pentecost and wife Bertha of Salem, VA; three sisters, Affie Stump and husband Everett of Salem, VA, Anna Keith of Fort Wayne, IN, and Iris “Penny” Craig of Noblesville, IN; one brother-in-law, Edwin Pownall of Grabill, VA; one grandson, Robert Shelton and wife Sonya, and great granddaughter Katie of Pulaski, VA; one granddaughter, Terri Clark and husband Paul of Chattanooga, TN; and several nieces and nephews in the Gretna, VA area.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 15, 2019, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Rev. James Barnhardt and Rev. Doug Duncan officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Monday at 3:30 PM at the Draper Valley Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Draper, VA.
