Shelton, Bane Dunbar
Bane Dunbar Shelton, 88, of Pearisburg, passed away January 5, 2012, at his home. Mr. Shelton was born on November 25, 1923, in Pearisburg, and was a son of the late Langston Jesse Shelton Sr. and Lula Shrader Shelton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Langston Jesse Shelton Jr.; and one sister, Margaret S. Haugh. Bane was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Giles Masonic Lodge # 106 A.F & A.M. since 1955. Bane was a man of faith. He loved God and enjoyed reading the Bible. In later years when he could no longer attend church, he was fond of saying he went to church two times each Sunday via his favorite church broadcasts on TV. Bane was a devoted husband and proud father. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Juanita Dunbar Shelton, who remained by his side through lengthy health problems. Bane is also survived by his daughter, Margaret E. Shelton, of Glen Allen, nieces, Meg Haugh Chisholm and Myra Shelton Crew; nephews, R. Eugene Haugh and L. J. Shelton, III; and special friends Bill Bane, Bill Blevins, John Harvey Givens Jr. and Jack Corell. Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, with Dr. Brad Scott and Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating, with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Givens Funeral Home.
