Velvie K. Blevins Shelor, 85, of Christiansburg, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 with family and loved ones around her at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in McDowell County West Virginia to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Roarck Rose.

She was the last of eight brothers and sisters. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Ray Blevins and Ray Shelor, a son, David L. Blevins, and a grandson, John Machincia III.

Velvie owned and operated her own Beauty Salon and was a cook for Montgomery County Schools. She loved serving the Lord and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Crafty Ladies and was also a former member of Boyds Chapel Church in Leckie, W.Va. She was the most loving and caring mother and friend and a wonderful cook and homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Gary) Wilson of Elliston, and Nancy Machincia (John) of Christiansburg; special daughter-in-law, Wanda Blevins of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, David Blevins, Jody Blevins, Gary Wilson, Vanessa Richardson, Jessica Hickman, and Brad Machincia; eight great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church 1845 Cambria St., Christiansburg, VA 24073.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 16, 2014 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home and a service will follow in the chapel at 7 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Fred Hodges and special speaker Ben Rogers. Interment will be on Tuesday, March 17, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, W.Va.
