Alvin Elwood Shelor, Sr., 79, of Poplar Hill, VA, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Lewis Gale Hospital- Pulaski. He was born March 1, 1940 at Christiansburg, VA, the son of the late Samuel Thomas & Stella Mae Sowers Shelor.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired after over 32 years of service from the Radford Arsenal. He was a past chief of the Poplar Hill Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed sponsoring the baseball games and concessions fundraisers. He was a member of the Oddfellows Wabash Lodge. He loved camping and hunting, especially in Colorado for Elk. He enjoyed birdwatching. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and he will be greatly missed.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Alvin Elwood Shelor, Jr., his brother Tom, and sister Agnes.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia Lewey Shelor; his daughters & son-in-law, Kim Hare and Teresa & Kenneth Smith; his granddaughters, Ashley Cadle and Rebecca Hare; his sisters, Wanda Bibee and Nadine Burton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, with Rev. Olen Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Walkers Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
