Shelor, Maude Boyd

Maude Boyd Shelor, 93 of Floyd, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the South Roanoke Nursing Home. She was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church of Floyd where she had served as Elder and was active in the women’s organization.

Her education took place in the public schools of Patrick and Floyd Counties, a Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University, and graduate work at Columbia University School of Social Work. Her professional career included eight years as a high school science teacher, and 37 years as director of the Floyd County Department of Social Services.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Henry B. Shelor; son, Dr. Roger M. Shelor; parents, Francis and Lou Anna Boyd; sisters, Effie Helms and Fanny Anderson; brothers, Luther Boyd and Charlie Boyd.

She is survived by her son, Allan H. Shelor; daughter-in-law, Dr. Barbara Moore Shelor; three grandchildren, Deborah Hemmingway, William and Anna Shelor; brother-in-law, George Shelor; sister-in-law, Lenna Shelor; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Presbyterian Church of Floyd with Pastor Tupper Garden officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will be held at Jacksonville Cemetery at a later date.
