George Edward Shaw, 78, of Radford, passed away at his residence on Saturday, June 10, 2006 surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born September 26, 1927 in Jewell Ridge, a son of the late Earl Shaw and Lucille Rhodes Shaw. He was a U. S. Army veteran, having served during WWII. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry after 44 years of service and was a member of the Christiansburg Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Sheffey Shaw; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Shaw of Dublin; two daughters and son-in-law, Louise and Gerald Kennon of New River, and Cynthia Vicars of Radford; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl L. and Jean Shaw of Winter Park, Fla., Donald and Annie Shaw of Christiansburg, and Johnny and Loraine Shaw of Stuarts Draft; a sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Bobby Maness of Yorktown; grandchildren, Toby Mathena and Rick Riggins, Stephanie and Mark Lucas, Velena and R. A. O’Dell, David and Anita Hungate, Tasha and Travis Cox, Chris Vicars, and Kim and Jason Hall; great-grandchildren, Josh and Haley Riggins, Jacob Walker and Makayla Cox, Landon and Afton O’Dell, and Kaitlyn and Megan Lucas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thanks to Debbie Ham, Alta Richford and Deborah Bradley of Carilion Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.

Graveside services will be held Monday, June 12, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford with Pastor Bob Roseberry officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Carilion Hospice, 707 Randolph Street, Radford, VA 24141.
