Don Gwindale Shaw, 77, of Peterstown, W.Va., and formerly of Narrows, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born on October 10, 1930, in Grapeland, Texas. He was the son of William Albert Shaw and Frances Ida Barnes Shaw. He came to Virginia from Alaska 28 years ago and built his home on Stockpen Mountain in Narrows, Va. He owned and operated Don’s Electric Services until his retirement in 2001.

He was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a member of the Baptist Church in Narrows. He was also a self-taught International World Champion Woodcarver and ivory carver. In his early years from 1949 to 1959, he was a farmer in Tucumcari, N.M., and also a trapper for the State of New Mexico Fish and Wildlife Service.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by three wives, Glenda Todd Shaw, Wanda Daves Shaw and Laurie Martin Shaw; his brother, Albert “Tutt” Shaw; and his sister, Betty Shaw Graham.

He is survived by his wife Lorene Weikle Shaw, of Peterstown; his sons, Stephen Shaw, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Michael Shaw, of Pearisburg, Va.; his daughter, Cynthia Shaw Bunch, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and his stepsons, George Martin, of Christiansburg, Va., Ronald Shultz, of Monroe County, W.Va., and Leslie Shultz, of Statesville, N.C. He also leaves four grandchildren, Chad Shaw, of Rowlett, Texas, Natalie Shaw Taylor, of Albuquerque, N.M., Taylor Gray, of Henderson, Nev., and Daniel Gray, of Henderson, Nev.; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Shaw, Noah Shaw, Abigail Shaw, Makayla Shaw and Kylin Taylor; two aunts, Marie Shaw and Marybelle Barnes Lofland, of Grapeland, Texas; and his sister-in-law, Wanda Shaw, of Ruidosa, N.M.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in the Shaw Family Cemetery on Stockpen Mountain in Narrows.
