Shaver, William Roop
William (Bill) Roop Shaver, 70, of Blacksburg went to be with his Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at his home. He was born in Montgomery County, Va. on July 27, 1939 and was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Roop Shaver.
Bill loved and enjoyed running cattle for many years and was a true fisherman when he camped with his family on Smith Mountain Lake. Bill was a machinist by trade and was employed with Cupp Tool, Electric Tech and VPI&SU for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Shaver; his mother, Anna Lee Shaver, both of Blacksburg; his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael W. and Susan Shaver of Indian Valley, Floyd, Douglas W. and Barbara Shaver of Blacksburg; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard L. and Yvonne Shaver of Blacksburg, Melvin K. and Melinda Shaver of Riner, Ralph C. and Brenda Shaver of Narrows; his grandchildren, Samantha and husband, Bruce Hamilton, Kelly Shaver, Kimberly Shaver, Kevin Shaver, all of Blacksburg; his great-granddaughter, Kenzi Hamilton; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nita and Marlin Bishop of Riner, Bobby and Mary Jane Martin of Christiansburg, Billy and Dorothy Martin of Radford, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to a special friend and doctor, Dr. Don Bevins, who is the Medical Director of Good Samaritan Hospice and their staff along with Dr. Harry McCoy and his staff.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Hutchison, the Rev. W. P. Turpin, and the Rev. Leon Alley officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, Va., 24018. Friends may call any time after 1 p.m. Monday and the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
