Shaver, Richard Lindwood

Richard (Dick) Lindwood Shaver, 73, of Blacksburg, Va., died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Montgomery County, Virginia on May 5, 1937. He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Roop Shaver, and one brother, William “Bill” Shaver. Dick was a veteran of the United States Air Force with eight years of service and retired from Virginia Tech with over 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife, M. Yvonne “Bonnie” Shaver; mother, Anna Lee Shaver, both of Blacksburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah S. and Billy A. Smith, of Polk, Nebraska, Rachel S. and Shane Parson, of Blacksburg; sister-in-law, Shirley M. Shaver, of Blacksburg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin K. and Melinda Shaver of Riner, Ralph C. and Brenda Shaver, of Narrows; grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith and wife, Brandy, Kenneth Smith and wife, Trisha, Jesse Parson; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Gabriel Smith, Katarina Whitson, Blake Smith, Lexie Smith, Josh Jurries, Jennifer Jurries, Hanna Smith; and also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Hurd officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
