Richard Lewis Sharpe, 71, of Floyd, passed away Friday November 9, 2007 at Fairpark Healthcare Center in Maryville, Tenn., after a long illness.

He was born in Fultonham, Ohio. After retiring from Bassett Furniture Company he went to work at Wal-Mart in Christiansburg as a greeter in the garden center. He was baptized in Christ September 10, 2007.

He was preceded in death by father, Clifford Lewis Sharpe, mother, Minnie Eversole Sharpe, mother-in-law, Tennie Turner, brothers, Robert J., Don, and John Sharpe, sister, Julia Mae McClinnitock, beloved cat, Kolumbo.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Vass Sharpe, Floyd; son and daughter-in-law, P.J. and Deborah Hicks Maryville, Tenn.; brother, Rickey Randolph Sharpe, Woodbridge, Va.; sister, Peggy Copenhaven Crocket, Va.; two grand-children Brandon and Joshua Hicks; many nephews and nieces.

He was loved by his family, friends, by the customers and associates of Christiansburg Wal-Mart and by the Maryville church of Christ where his son P.J. preaches and baptized him. Memorial services will be held at Maberry Funeral Home 367 South Locust Street, Floyd, Va. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, November 13, 2007 from 6 to 7 p.m. with services to follow at 7 p.m. with Mitchell Floyd, Minister of the Floyd Church of Christ , officiating.
