Shanks, Sr., Joe Nelson

Joe Nelson Shanks, Sr. of Pearisburg, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Joe was born on July 31, 1939 in Buena Vista, VA and was a son of late Charles Ellis Shanks and Mary Rowsey Shanks.

Joe was the proud owner of the G & S Trucking Company in Ripplemead for many years. He was also a member of the “Mild Hogs,” the motorcycle group that he loved riding with special friends.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Georgia Gay Davis Shanks of Pearisburg, two sons, Joe N. Shanks, Jr. (Mauricia) of Pearisburg, John Ellis Shanks (Betty) of Pearisburg, one grandson, Austin C. Shanks of Pearisburg, many nieces and nephews and two special furry friends, China and Bella.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2pm at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with Pastor Tony Robertson officiating.
