Judy Carol Pinson Sewell, 77, of Blacksburg, died on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Lewis Gale Hospital Salem following surgery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Mildred Pinson, of Olton, Texas.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Edward (Edd) Holt Sewell, Jr.; Neffi, her cat; son John Edward Sewell, wife Karen Linkous Sewell, granddaughter Chelsea La’Raye Sewell, great-granddaughter Marlee Ryder Sewell, granddaughter Courtney Roxanne Sewell Croy and husband Paul Logan Croy all of Montgomery County; daughter Virginia (Ginny) Carol Sewell Cole of Blacksburg, son Zachariah (Zac) David Cole and fiancé Maddie Reda of Raleigh, North Carolina, and son Phoenix Damien Cole of Dublin, Virginia; her brother Jackie Pinson and wife Sue of Brownfield, Texas; brother-in-law James Sewell and wife Carol of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother-in-law Thomas Sewell and wife Susie of Columbia, Missouri; and many other nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Judy taught at Harding Avenue Elementary School for 35 years. In retirement she volunteered with palliative care at NRV Medical Center, played mahjong with gusto, quilted with love, and was active in Glade Church (United Church of Christ, formerly Baptist) for 50 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, and her graduate degree from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia.
