Seiler, Sigrid Vest
Sigrid Vest Seiler, 76, resident of Long Beach, Miss. and native of Copper Hill, Va. passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at her summer home in Copper Hill. She died in the same home where she was born, October 4 1940. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Glenn and Ethia C Vest. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Glenna Sprinkle and Pauline Board. Sigrid was a graduate of James Madison University with a degree in elementary education. As a Navy wife of 23 years she traveled with her husband Tom to various posts, when she could, before they settled in Long Beach in 1973. There she became active in the city. As Chairwoman of the city tree board she worked to preserve the beautiful live oaks on the Gulf Coast by registering them in the National Register. Her teaching degree assisted her when she became the children’s librarian for the Long Beach Public Library. She was a life member of the Long Beach Garden Club and Master Gardener. Her love of flowers she inherited from her mother. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Thomas (Tom) Seiler; daughter Laura Seiler, of Mobile, Ala.; and son Shawn Seiler (Cindy), of Flowery Branch, Ga.; nephews Gary, Gordon, Ronnie (Lynn), and Ricky (Lisa) Sprinkle. Services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with the service to follow. Interment will be at the Restvale Cemetery with a short service, weather permitting. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
