William Harry Scott Sr., 99, passed away on July 31, 2013, at Grace Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Marie Scott and his parents, Alanson Burl Scott and Susan James Scott; siblings, Dwight Scott and Alanson Burl Scott Jr., Joseph Henry Scott; sisters, Helen Roberts McFatridge, Mary Lou Scott Steger, and Alice Scott Hale.

Mr. Scott attended Marshall University. Mr. Scott was born in Williamson, W.Va. on October 18, 1913, moved to Huntington, W.Va., and then to Pulaski. He and his wife moved to Alexandria, Va. and established the Scott Shop Inc-a ladies apparel store. Mr. Scott was a member of the Washington Street Methodist Church, the Alexandria Salvation Army, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the Del Ray Citizens Association, and the Potomac West Trade Association. He also served on the board of United Virginia Bank (Now Sun Trust), he was influential in the organization of the Distributive Educational Program. He belonged to various groups and organizations. Mr. Scott was a 32 degree Mason, George Washington Masonic Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, Ocean City Shrine Club.

He is survived by his son, William H. Scott Jr. and his wife, Sandra; three grandsons, William H. Scott III, Stephen Marshall Scott and James Alanson Scott; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 1 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the service hour. Burial will be in the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery in Pulaski, Va., with military graveside rites conducted by the Pulaski V.F.W. post 1184.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in William Harry Scott, SR. to your local Salvation Army. A family reception will be held in Vero Beach, Fla. at a later date.
