Scott, Basil Henry

Basil Henry Scott, 88, of Draper, died at home on Thursday, April 23, 2015. He was born on April 13, 1927 in McComas, W.Va. and was the son of the late Edith Ocie Worley Scott and Calvin Isiah Scott. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Scott; and sister, Kathleen Cassell.

He was a Veteran of World War II, a true patriot serving in the Merchant Marines in Europe and North Africa. Married for 66 years to his wife, Geraldine Scott. Plant Engineer for Johnson Carper Furniture, Project Engineer for Singer Furniture, and Chief Engineer for Pulaski Furniture. Member of the Pulaski County Planning Commission since its inception until he had to resign due to his health in December 2014.

Member of First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, Va. He was a volunteer for The Daily Bread serving meals to those in need. He loved to collect antiques and refurbish them.

He was an avid reader, reading three papers daily. Mr. Scott was well known for handing out candy canes during the Christmas season and on any day handing out a copy of the United States Constitution.

Survivors are his wife, Geraldine (Jerry) Scott; sons, Basil (Rocky) Scott and Dr. Robert (Bob) Scott; daughter, Junella Macrae; granddaughters, Mary Scott and Katherine Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore and the Rev. Don Singleton officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the South West VA. Veterans Cemetery, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2015 from the funeral home.
