Schumann Jr., Charles Nunnally
Chuck Schumann, 55, of Blacksburg, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 21, 2012, while surrounded by loving family members. He is fondly remembered as a husband, father, son, and brother; and he leaves behind a multitude of friends around the world. Chuck’s career, like his personality, was exemplified by prodigious energy and curiosity. He earned degrees in chemistry and computer science, and he worked tirelessly to build Pico Systems, the company he founded in 2003. But Chuck was not defined by his company or his work. At age 16, he met Jesus Christ as his savior, trusting in Him as the only way to eternal life, and he was dedicated from that day forth to knowing Him and making Him known. Along with his wife and life-long partner, Linda, Chuck raised two daughters, Elizabeth Jeanne and Sonya Grace, to share his generous spirit of openness and compassion. They learned from his example of diligence, fearlessness, and fun. He had the courage to join his young daughters for beginning music lessons and the grace to realize when it was wiser to support their precocious talents than to try to keep up. Chuck’s open and adventurous spirit was exemplified by his special connection with the Chinese community and culture. On his many visits to Taiwan and China, his fluent Mandarin always attracted considerable curiosity and admiration, so much so that young children were even known to question his ethnicity. One of his great passions was his annual mission trip to Taiwan, where he led a group from Blacksburg Christian Fellowship to teach English and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. He had a deep affinity for the Chinese people to whom he felt called to serve. Closer to home, Chuck helped to found the Blacksburg Christian Chinese Church where he served as a preacher, mentor, comforting confidant, and constant handyman. No task was too great or too small, and every newcomer arrived in Blacksburg having at least one friend. Chuck’s sudden illness weakened his body, but he never allowed MDS to break his optimistic spirit. He fought valiantly, and he will be dearly missed. His life and legacy will forever be imprinted on the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Elizabeth Jeanne and Sonya; parents, Patricia and Charles; stepmother, Helen; siblings, Sandy, Susan, Virginia Bruce and Beth, Susan, Bob, Dana, Joseph and David.
