sayers doris edwinDoris Edwin (Sandy) Sayers, age 88, of Pulaski, died Friday October 5, 2012, at the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born on April 26, 1924, in Draper, and was the son of the late Georgia Huddle Sayers and Benton Sayers. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in W.W. II, was a member of the First Christian Church (DOC) since June 7, 1959, where he served as Deacon Emeritus, and retired from Kerns Bakery Sales with 42 years of service. His life-long love was for his church, family and his special details to his love of gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Mickey) Brancome Sayers; brothers Charles, Garland, Dan, and Phil; and his sister, Evelyn Faulkner. He is survived by his son, Edwin L. (Eddie) Sayers and his wife, Tammy, of Dublin; two daughters, Sandra Stanberry and her husband, David, of Dublin, and Sherry Casteele and her husband, Jim, of Pulaski: a brother, John Sayers and his wife Catherine, of Staunton. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sarah Benton, of Hickory, N.C., Brent Casteele, of Pulaski, Monica Heath and her husband, Justin, of Dublin, and Zane Yopp, of Dublin; two great-grandchildren, Brayden Heath and Tucker Benton; a very special friend, Dorothy Roop; a family friend, Barbara Martin; his faithful companion Tinkerbell; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday October 8, 2012, at noon at the First Christian Church, with the Rev. Randy Winn and the Rev. Terrie Sternberg officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens where the V.F.W. Post 1184 will conduct military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at First Christian Church from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated, but for those who wish, they may make memorial contributions to the First Christian Church (DOC) P.O.
