Claude V. Sawyers, 94, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at his home.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Helen Sawyers; son and daughterin-law, Roger and Martha Sawyer, all of Christiansburg; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Henry Merrill, of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren and their families, Debbie Clendenon and her children, Taylor and Max, of Roanoke, Beth and Greg Graham and their children, Phoebe, Olivia and John, of Atlanta, Ga., Suzanne Sawyer, of Atlanta, Ga., Melissa Merrill, of Atlanta, Ga., Christopher Merrill, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Timothy Merrill, of Greenville, S.C.; brother, James Sawyers and family, of Pound, Va.; and brother-in-law, Harvey Shelbourne and family, of Radford, Va.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to neighbors, Chris Webb and Mike Norwood, and Hospice of the New River Valley for all their kindness and support.

There will be no public visitation. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008, at the graveside in North Fork Cemetery, Ellett, Va., conducted by the Rev. Henry Merrill and the Rev. Robert White.
