Saunders, Oscar Mitchell

Oscar Mitchell Saunders, 82, of Pearisburg, VA passed away Friday, January 17, 2020 at his home. He was born February 24, 1937 at White Gate, VA, the son of the late Herbert Monroe & Mary Catherine Whittaker Saunders.

Known for the smile he wore on his face all the time, he enjoyed the outdoors, watching wildlife, especially deer and turkeys, working with apple trees and mechanic work.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Stump Saunders, his grandson, Jason Thorne, his adopted son, George Kirk, his brother Kenneth Saunders and two sisters, Lucille Dalton and Jean Sharp.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons & daughters-in-law, Mitchell & Tina Saunders, Greg & Barbara Saunders and Kevin Saunders; his daughter & son-in-law, Eva S. & Tommy Thorne; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, George Saunders and partner John Bauza and his sisters, Violet Russell and Marie Saunders.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11:00 A. M. at Birchlawn Burial Park, Inc., with Rev. Sue Dodson-Walker officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, January 20, 2020 at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
