Saunders, Minor Craig

Minor Craig Saunders, age 84, of Newport departed this life Monday, January 20, 2020 at his home. Born in Newport on February 2, 1935 he was a son of the late Walter and Rosie Trout Saunders.

He was employed by Virginia Tech as a bailer operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Patricia “Pete” Grubb Saunders, a daughter Patricia Broyles, a son Steven Saunders, a son-in-law John Broyles all of Newport; and siblings Darnell Saunders, Burrell Saunders, Virginia Dowdy, Anna Kyle Lafon, and Ruby Saunders.

Left to cherish his memory are sisters Delsie Alls and Christine Nuckols, grandchildren Valerie Lane and Edward of Newport, VA, Benjamin Broyles and husband Thomas Younce of Roanoke, and great-grandchildren Ethan Greer, Jadelynn Lane, Kaylee Lane, Madison Lane, and Paisley Lane.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Williams Cemetery in Newport, VA with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke Thursday evening January 23, 2020 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
