Faye Hancock Saunders, of Draper, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 31, 2012. Faye began her journey that was mapped out by her faith in Jesus as her savior from her earthly home to her eternal home.

Faye was born on July 27, 1933, and in her early years she was raised in Carroll County. She was the daughter of the late Royal Early Hancock and Beaulah Jane White Hancock. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

Surviving are brothers, Johnny Hancock and wife, Janet, of Wythe County, and Russell Hancock, of Martinsville; sister, Sonia Easter, of Carroll County; and several nieces and nephews.

After moving to Salem in her high school years, she found the love of her life of 60 years, Ray L. Saunders. Following Ray’s career they moved to Draper’s Valley in 1969 and little did they know that the rest of their lives would be spent on the farm that they loved dearly.

Faye’s love of people, animals, and the country way of life brought her great joy, which is now still, in the homeplace a place to their three children, Thomas Ray Saunders, Michael Adrin Saunders, and Pamela Saunders Bratton and husband, Darrell, and their children, Taylor and Amber. Faye gave of herself unmeasurable time and attention to their grandson, Taylor, in his formative years.

Our heartfelt thanks to all of her special friends, wonderful caregivers, Cleita Wheeler and Ruby Tickle, who showed her tender loving care, and also special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice.
