Charles Phil Saunders, 78 of Christiansburg, passed away November 1, 2013. He was Anna’s good-looking husband for 56 years, a longtime member of the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren and R.S.V.P., and retired from the Roanoke Times after 33 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mable and Henry Saunders, Ashland, VA; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Tony Simmons, Riner, VA; sister, Goldie Saunders, Richmond, VA; brother, W.E. Saunders, FL; and his granddaughter, Sydney Mountjoy, Christiansburg, VA. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Anna Mae; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Susan; daughter, Phyllis; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Jane; brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Lucille; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Dulcy; sister-in-law, Irene Simmons; brother-in-law, Sid Altizer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Betty Simmons; grandson and his wife, Chuck and Kristine; granddaughter and her husband, Montana and Jason Lucas; and their daughter, Phil’s only great grandchild, Emma; as well as many other beloved family members.

The family will receive friends at the Horne Funeral Home on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren with Rev. Don Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
