Sartoris, Edward Lee

Edward Lee Sartoris, 75, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in Pulaski, VA. Edward, was a witty man with a dry sense of humor who brought joy to all he met. He was gifted in electronics and enjoyed fixing and restoring anything broken, especially old radios. Following his stroke 5 years ago, Ed resided at Highland Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Dublin, VA. Edward would like to thank all his family, friends and caregivers for their support during his final years of life.

Edward L. Sartoris was born in Budd Lake, NJ on 07/16/1938, son of John “Jack” Sartoris and Jennie Myers-Sartoris . He was an only child. He was a 1960 graduate of Lehigh University with a degree in Economics. He was a Veteran and served his country in the Army. Edward was a member of St. Judes Catholic Church in Budd Lake, NJ and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg, VA.

Edward was a lifelong employee of Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ and was a supporter and former president of the local National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) chapter. After his retirement, Edward was an avid volunteer of the Visiting Nurses Association of Somerset Hills, NJ where he joyfully served others by organizing and preparing their electronics tent for their annual rummage sale.

He is survived by his wife, Emeline, his sons Warren and Robert all of Budd Lake, NJ and by his daughter Amy Sartoris-Kietrys, her husband Michael Kietrys his grandson John Kietrys and granddaughter Casey Kietrys, all of Christiansburg, VA.

Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 30, at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg with Father Remie Sojka officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Edward will be laid to rest at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 1.

To further Ed’s spirit of helping others, he has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Rd., Blacksburg, VA 24060. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and he will be missed by all.
