James Montriville Sage, 89 of Pulaski, died Saturday evening January 20, 2007 in Pulaski Community Hospital.

He was born January 13, 1918 in Wythe County, Va., and was the son of the late Hattie Porter Sage and James Marvin Sage. Mr. Sage was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, a retired employee of Virginia Department of Transportation, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1184, a fifty-plus year member of the Pythagoras Masonic Lodge #239 A.F.&A.M., a former member of the former Pulaski Auxiliary Police Force, and a Veteran of the United States Army having served in W.W.II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wyatt Porter and a sister, Viola Sage. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Vaughan Sage of Pulaski; two daughters, Elizabeth Busteed and her husband, Bryan of Pulaski and Margaret S. Guy and her husband, Mike of Marion; one son, Stephen R. Sage and his wife, Vickie of Rural Retreat. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jason Jennings and his wife Amy, Jeremy Jennings and his wife Brandi, Jay Guy and his wife Lynne, Jeff Guy, Jennifer Sage Melon and her husband Dave, Jonathan Sage and his wife Brittany; and three great-grandchildren, Nathan Jennings, Meredith and Andrew Jennings; one niece Sandra Porter Carrion; and a caregiver and special friend Elizabeth Sarver.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 23, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judy Yonce officiating. Interment will follow in Thornspring Cemetery where the V.F.W. Post 1184 will conduct military honors. Visiting will be anytime Monday after 4 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated, but for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Sage’s memory to the Trinity United Methodist Church 528 Fifth Street, S.E.
