Nelva Hale Rutrough, 87, of Radford, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006. She was born January 15, 1919 in Floyd, Va. to William and Ollie Hale.

A graduate of Check High School and continued her education with a bachelor of science and master degrees from Radford College. After college she went on to teach school in Bland, Floyd, and Pulaski County School systems. Mrs. Rutrough was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Radford Woman’s Club, Kiwanis Wives, and a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Radford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James E. Rutrough. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Roberta Rutrough, Jr., of Bloomington Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Marc Bridenhagen, of Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Frances Graham, of Galax, Va., and Garnet King, of Floyd, Va.; two special friends, Barbara Duncan and Doris Viars, both of Radford; three granddaughters, Sarah Frances Bridenhagen, Amanda Jane Bridenhagen, and Kathryn Ryan Rutrough.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at DeVilbiss Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Rest Vale Cemetery in Floyd, Va. A memorial service will follow at noon at the Presbyterian Church of Radford, with the Rev. Shirley Larson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions be made to the Presbyterian Church of Radford at 201 Fourth Street, Radford, Va. 24141. Arrangements by DeVilbiss Funeral Home.
