Rowe, Sally Thompson Miles

Sally Thompson Miles Rowe, 93, of Riner, died December 27, 2011. She was born in Riner, VA, on December 1, 1918, and spent most of her life in the Riner community.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Sam Prillaman of Salisbury, MD, and Carmen and Jack Steele of Columbia, VA; grandchildren, Mark Steele and his wife, Joyce of Fredericksburg, VA, Miles Prillaman and his wife, Julia of Houston, TX, and Kevin Steele and wife, Theresa of Glen Allen, VA. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren; a sister, Lena Spencer of Camden, SC; as well as 7 nieces and 3 nephews.

In addition to her family, perhaps her greatest love was her farm and horses. Sally was avidly interested in her family history and enjoyed talking to other people about their own family heritage. In fact, she became a local expert on the history of Riner, named after her great-grandfather, David Riner.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at Horne Funeral Home on January 7, 2011. A memorial service will immediately follow in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riner Volunteer Fire Department, P O Box 11, Riner, VA 24149.
