Raymond Early Roop Jr., 50, of Virginia Beach, Va., passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, in his home. A native of Christiansburg, Va., he retired from the United States Navy as a First Class Petty Officer having served in Desert Storm. He also retired from Cowan Systems as a long haul driver. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Raymond Early Roop Sr. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Ann Roop; two daughters, Stefanie Grant, of Norfolk, and Nicole Grant, of Virginia Beach; his mother, Mary Collins Roop, of Radford, Va.; three sisters, Cheryl Sipe, of Dublin, Va., Tammy Richman, of Indiana, and Janet Klinger, of Colorado; three brothers, Ralph Roop, of Draper, Va., Stephen Roop, of Radford, Va., and Cecil Roop, of Salem, Va.; and his father and mother-in-law, Neil and Carolyn Arthur, of Baltimore, Md.

The family would like to thank Virginia Oncology, Sentara Hospice and Michelle Kelly for all their support.

A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Riverside Baptist Church, 5768 Sellger Drive, Norfolk with Pastor Frank Leonard officiating. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery 3 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009. The family will receive friends at HollomonBrown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel on Friday, May 15, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Riverside Baptist Church.
