Roop Jr., Edgar Vanson

Edgar Vanson (E. V.) Roop, Jr., 80, of Floyd, died Sunday, January 18, 2009. He was born March 10, 1928, to Edgar Vanson Roop, Sr. and Elizabeth Epperly Roop and spent his entire life residing in Floyd, Va.

He was called to serve his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry in Radford, Va. with 31 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Slusher Roop, brother, Dalton Roop, and sister, Ruth Roop Akers. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Mary Elizabeth Roop, Floyd; sister, Annie Mae Gardner, Radford; three nephews, Vernon Roop, Bristol, Tenn., Ray Gardner, Riner, and Doug Gardner, Radford; four nieces, Betty Lou Million, Hebron, Ky., Peggy Lancaster, Washington, D. C., Karen L. Via, Floyd, and Donna H. Smith, Floyd; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda S. and Donald Hylton; several great-nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Sophie.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Marvin D. Wade and the Rev. Jimmy O. Cannaday officiating. Interment will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you send a memorial donation to Beaver Creek Cemetery, c/o Brenda S. Hylton, 200 Wills Ridge Road, N.W., Floyd, VA 24091.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to all of the many nursing staff members and physicians who cared for E. V. during his 27 days of hospitalization at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and to the Rev. Marvin D. Wade and Rev. Jimmy O. Cannaday for their pastoral services. Your many prayers, calls, and visits were uplifting during this difficult time.
