amem_village.jpgDarlene Pearl Hollandsworth Roop, a loving and devoted wife, daughter, dedicated mother, and proud grandmother, 72, of Dublin, went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 16, 2007 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Floyd County on September 10, 1934 to Gertha Hollandsworth and the late Asa Hollandsworth. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hollandsworth.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years and best friend, Gerald Roop of Dublin; her mother, Gertha Hollandsworth of Radford; her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda Roop of Radford and Malcolm and Connie Roop of Downingtown, Pa.; her grandson and his wife, Kevin and Elizabeth Roop of Radford; her granddaughters, Stephanie and Kristina Roop of Downingtown, Pa.; her great grandson, Shane Roop of Radford; her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Barbara Hollandsworth of Powhatan; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Roop was an active member of Dublin Baptist Church and the Secretary/Treasurer of the Mission Minded Women’s Group, a proud member and Secretary of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and an avid sports fan following her sons and grandchildren for many years as well as Radford University Basketball.

The family wishes to express thanks to her church family, Dr. Mike Barry and staff, and Adventa Hospice Services for their kindness and support during her courageous battle.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the Dublin Baptist Church with Pastor T. Ivey Adams officiating. Pallbearers will be Tommy Dobbins, David Clonch, Bill Henthorne, Curtis Bland, Jerry Watson, and Dallas Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be her three grandchildren, Kevin, Stephanie and Kristina Roop and her other son, Erby Turpin, Jr.

Private burial will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Darlene’s name to Adventa Hospice Services, 154 West 4th Street, Salem, VA 24153. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, July 17, 2007 at the Dublin Baptist Church located at Route 100 and Hawkins Street in Dublin.
